Clínica 20/20 uses Visumax technology to create the corneal tunnel where the intrastromal rings are placed.

Using the laser makes it possible to create this space in the cornea with high precision, following the plan drawn up for each patient.

Crosslinking and rings are not the same thing

A simple way to understand it:

• Crosslinking: mainly aims to strengthen and stabilize the cornea in order to reduce the progression of the disease.
• Intrastromal rings: aim to modify and regularize the shape of the cornea to improve its optical characteristics in selected patients.

Depending on the case, a patient may need one of the procedures, a combination of both, or a different alternative.

That is why, before talking about surgery, the first step must always be to determine what type of keratoconus you have, how far it has progressed and what characteristics your cornea presents.

Experience in keratoconus

Dr. Claudio Orlich, Medical Director of Clínica 20/20 and a specialist in Cornea and Refractive Surgery, performed the first Ferrara Ring implants reported by the clinic in Costa Rica and has experience in the surgical treatment of corneal diseases.
